Ditto is the number one cause of a “disease” called Dittoache (get it?!), and even though Ditto is constantly in Pokemon Go, it is extremely hard to find as Ditto is very good at hiding. I think that we can all agree with that, even to this day.
One of the most unusual Pokemon in Pokemon Go, Ditto is infamous for its good hiding abilities, even in a mobile game believe it or not. Ditto stepped into the game back when we all were witnesses of the mesmerizing Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto Special Research quest, and is it safe to say that that was the last time I saw it appear on my screen (as another Pokemon because Ditto is the Transform Pokemon).
You may have gotten an idea of how hard is to get an encounter with Ditto. The Transform Pokemon is not that likely to be found in the wild, and the chances of seeing Ditto in the wild are around 3%. Low, right?
Ditto always appears on the map screen as a different Pokemon, meaning that it can steal the appearance of another Pokemon, and you wouldn’t know it unless you click on that Pokemon and catch it with your PokeBall. Ditto will appear only after a successful catch of a Pokemon.
Luckily, our Pokemon Go lives have been made a little bit easier when Niantic decided to publish monthly lists of the potential disguises of Ditto, so we can predict which Pokemon might become a Ditto at the end. Plus, there is a Shiny Ditto, which is harder to encounter than its regular form.
I have to mention again, that the chances of encountering a Ditto are less than 3%, but it might appear on your screen disguised as a Pokemon from Ditto’s list of disguises.

You might notice some Pokemon from Ditto’s list of disguises for September 2022 that have a Shiny form present in Pokemon Go. So what about that?
Fortunately, if you encounter any Pokemon from Ditto’s list of disguises for September 2022, and that Pokemon happens to be a Shiny one, do not worry as Ditto cannot “steal” the Shiny form of a Pokemon. Even if that Pokemon is part of Ditto’s list of disguises. However, a non-Shiny Pokemon from the list might turn into a Shiny Ditto.
